Sweden have confirmed their passage from Group F of the European Championship qualifiers and will look to celebrate it at home. Their last game of the campaign will be against Faroe Islands, who have just one win to their credit.
Sweden defeated Romania 2-0 in a tense away match last time around. That win was enough to seal their progression, and the hosts join Spain from the group for direct qualification. It has also meant Sweden have lost only once during this qualification campaign. That was in an away match against Spain. Playing at home, Sweden have remained unbeaten in four matches this campaign, winning two. Interestingly, three of those four matches have seen goals at both ends. With the qualification secured, the team could be set to test the bench strength and rest some regular players.
Therein lies an opportunity for Faroe Islands, who have just three points in this campaign. That came in a 1-0 home win over Malta, although Faroe Islands travel here on the back of a 4-0 away loss at Norway. Indeed, the visitors have lost each of their four away Euro qualifiers and have conceded exactly four goals in the last three. In 25 of their last 26 away European qualifiers, Faroe Islands have lost. Even in the reverse fixture, Faroes struggled to contain the Swedes and have shipped four goals. The gap in quality of the two squads looks huge and the result looks a foregone conclusion.
Sweden have already qualified and should look at this game to test their bench strength. That paves the way for a Faroe Islands goal, considering that three of Sweden’s four home matches this campaign returned the same. From a betting point of view, there isn’t much value in a Sweden win. Look at ‘both teams to score’ market, as well as the over 3.5 goals market which look worthwhile at the moment.
