Defending champions Sporting begin the weekend in third place. They host Moreirense who are down in 14th place, two points above the relegation zone. Sporting are only a point behind leaders Benfica and second placed Porto are ahead on goal difference. Benfica don't play until Sunday, so a better result on Saturday than Porto at Tondela will see them go top. Sporting only lost one league game last season and are unbeaten this term. Eight games have seen them win six and draw two with 13 goals scored and only four conceded. Midweek saw them win 4-1 away at Besiktas in the Champions League with Sebastian Coates netting twice. They have won their last three league games and have just one loss in the last 42. Home form has them unbeaten in 30 league games with three wins and a draw this season and just one goal conceded.
Moreirense are in relegation trouble and don't have a great record in league visits to Sporting. Their last six games have all been lost and another defeat looks on the cards here. They have only won one league game this season, a 2-1 home victory over Arouca who are in the bottom three. Moreirense have conceded 16 league goals this season and that's the joint worst record. The chances are they will have that record al to themselves after this game at Sporting. They have failed to score in their last two away league fixtures and recently lost 5-0 at Porto.Only one of their last eight away league games have been won. Back Sporting to win this and be ahead at both half and full time.
