It’s top versus bottom in the MLS Western Conference on Sunday as top-placed Saint Louis City take on LA Galaxy at the CityPark. The hosts are top with 28 points and a one-point lead over Seattle while the visitors are bottom with 12 points, one-point behind Colorado. Saint Louis have seen their three-game winning run halted with a 2-0 defeat to FC Dallas on Thursday. With the top-three spots getting crammed in the division, the hosts can ill-afford another slip-up. They are only a point ahead of Seattle, who have played two games extra. The gap to third-placed Los Angeles FC is two points, but Saint Louis have played two games extra. A return to home climes will be most welcome as they have won their last three home games in a row. All season long, they have won six and lost just two of their MLS home games, which raises hopes of another three points. Nevertheless, most of those games have seen over 2.5 goals which could once again be the case.
LA Galaxy may play their part in that aspect, as they are stuck to the bottom of the table – not just in points but also in defence. Only Real Salt Lake have conceded more goals than LA Galaxy, which speaks about how poor they have been at the back. They did win their recent game against Real Salt Lake but that was just their third win of the season. With eight losses across their last 11 league games, LA Galaxy have struggled for consistency. The recent win has come away from home but that has only halted a four-game losing streak on the road.
