The match

South Korea and Ghana will face off in the search for a win in Group H as action goes into the second round of matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Ahead of this Monday 28th November clash, Ghana are bottom of the group without a point while South Korea have a point from the opening game. South Korea drew 0-0 with Uruguay, registering their fourth unbeaten outing and the result also came with a third straight clean sheet for the Asian giants. As they head to this game, they will want to work more on their precision in attack, having failed to score in two of their last five matches. In those five matches, they’ve managed more than a goal in just one and each of their last three matches has produced under 2.5 goals. Earlier, Korea had struggled to keep clean sheets, conceding five goals before their last three matches but this might have come at the expense of the attack, which has seen fewer goals. Generally though, and especially in competitive matches, Korea will strike as a stronger side going into this game and coming from a draw with Uruguay will leave the impression that this is a winnable clash. South Korea have registered six wins in 10 competitive games and kept seven clean sheets in the process. In this run, they will hope they can improve on their World Cup run, which has seen them win just once in the last 10. Their top man Son Heung-min came through the opening game unscathed after his injury in club duty and should be a key player here.

Ghana started their campaign in this group on a losing note but they will have a lot of positives to take from the 3-2 defeat to Portugal. They managed to hold off the former European champions for long times in the game and only stumbled deep in the second hand, with mistakes they could have avoided. Ghana were also unlucky with Portugal’s opener, a penalty that seemed so soft was awarded after Cristiano Ronaldo tumbled in the box under really minimal contact. The West Africans did rally to level through the inspirational skipper Andre Ayew but they could not withstand the pressure from the Portuguese that followed. Billed as one of the most probable teams from Africa to advance in this competition, Ghana have a job on their hands, starting this game bottom of the group and coach Otto Addo will not be faulted for terming this a must win game as Uruguay awaits. For starters, Ghana will have to tighten at the back, having conceded three goals in two of their last four matches, but with three clean sheets in five games, they will feel they have somewhere to start from. In terms of performance in competitive action, Ghana will struggle to match South Korea; they have just two wins in the last 10 and carry three clean sheets only in that period. Their record at the FIFA World Cup is also not so great in recent competitions. They missed the 2018 showpiece, but coming into their second game in this one, they have no win in five straight World Cup games. Their attack at the World Cup can’t be faulted though, as they have scored in each of their last six World Cup games. Their record against Korea is also impressive, having won three of their earlier four meetings with the Asian nation. This will however be the first ever competitive meeting between the two nations. Going into this game, right back Alidu Seidu may need a late check to ascertain his readiness for this clash, having been withdrawn in the Portugal game, and training separately on Friday. Thomas Partey, one of the senior players for Ghana will also have to rise to the occasion in terms of lifting the relatively inexperienced lads around him, as skipper Andre Ayew does. Mohamed Kudus had a fine game for Ghana in the loss to Portugal and should keep his place in Match Day 2 action but he goes into the game on a yellow card, just as three of his other mates in the starting team - Seidu, Andre Ayew and Inaki Williams.

The bet of our experts

South Korea were saved twice by the woodwork in their opening game, against Uruguay but they also gave a decent effort to secure one point from the game. Ghana weren’t so lucky with Portugal and will go into this game knowing another loss ends their competition at the group stage. Ghana haven’t done so well in competitive matches, while having one of the most inexperienced squads at this competition showed against the experience possessed by Portugal. Korea will know too well about such shortcomings, and they have done way better in competitive action, and based on their recent run, we will back them to win this game.
