The match

Spain, still recovering from the shock of the World Cup exit, will look to continue their positive start to the European Championship 2020 qualifiers when they travel to Faroe Islands. The Spaniards won 2-0 away at Malta and then picked up a facile 2-1 home win over Norway. Under new manager Luis Enrique, they are looking to make the most of their attacking options. With the top two making it to the Euros, Spain currently sit top of the Group F standings, with Sweden two points behind and Faroes bottom of the group with no points. However, Enrique would be under pressure to perform after seeing the team come a cropper in the UEFA Nations League. Although they started well with wins over England and Croatia, losses in the reverse fixtures pushed them out of contention for the final four. Regardless, it should be an easy task for Spain in the group as they have a very favourable group. Faroe Islands started their qualification campaign losing both their games, as expected. However, both their games were on the road and this remains their first home tie of the qualification campaign.

Key Statistics

  • Spain have won all their matches against Faroe Island, scoring at least three goals in each of those.
  • Spain have won 23 of their last 24 European qualifier matches, losing just once to Slovakia.
  • Faroe Island have managed to score in each of their matches against Spain.

The bet of our experts

Spain have had some rude shocks in the previous months and would be eager not to take any opponent lightly. Interestingly, they haven’t kept a clean sheet against Faroe Islands, although this time around it shouldn’t be a problem. Enrique’s men look thirsty for goals and even if the fixture comes late in the season after the players were exhausted by the domestic campaigns, Spain should have enough gas to roll Faroes over.
