After beating the top seed in the semi-finals, Daniil Medvedev now attempts to beat Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. It's a feat he has managed to do in the past having beaten the Serb to win the title two years ago. He's won five tour events this year and four of them have been on hard courts, the surface this final will be played on. All his title wins came in the first five months of this year so he'll be hoping to end his barren spell. On the way to this final he has dropped three sets but never had to go to a final one. Medvedev did win his last match against Djokovic but that's the only win he's managed in his last five meetings with the Serb. This is his 15th match against Djokovic and he's only won five of them.
A win for Novak Djokovic will give him his 24th Grand Slam title. He's won two of them this year and has managed to get to the final of all four Grand Slam tournaments this year. It's the third time he's managed to do that in his amazing career. Only the loss against Alcaraz at Wimbledon has prevented him coming into this match attempting to win all four Grand Slams in the same year. That's just about the only feat he hasn't managed in tennis. He will be back as world number one when the new rankings list is published even if he loses this final. Only two sets have been lost by the 36-year-old in this year's US Open. Both came against Laslo Djere in the third round but he recovered from 2-0 down to get through. This will be a tough match but we go for Djokovic to win the final.
