A terrific matchup in the MLS between the Western Conference’s second and third-place teams is set to kick off this weekend when Austin FC host the LA Galaxy at the Q2 Stadium. A recent expansion team, Austin FC have had a wonderful start to their second year in the MLS and hold a record of six wins, two draws and one defeat, giving them 20 points and putting them second in the Western Conference, trailing only LAFC who sit on 22 points. The Verde and Black are coming off a morale-boosting 2-1 away win against rivals Houston Dynamo and have now won four matches on the bounce. Their opponents today have been enjoying a fast start to the season themselves as the Galaxy sit third in the Western Conference with a record 5-1-3 for 16 points. They are coming off a 1-0 away loss to Real Salt Lake in the last match, a result which snapped a previous four match unbeaten run.
We’re going to highlight both teams' defenses as the basis for our bet in this match. The Galaxy are tied for the second fewest goals conceded record with only seven in nine matches so far while Austin are not far behind with only eight goals conceded. LA have kept two clean sheets in their three matches and have already managed to keep four total in the young season. Another positive for our bet has been the Galaxy’s struggles to find the net in recent matches. The visitors have only managed to find the net once in their last three outings and things won’t get any easier as they face off against one of the league’s hottest teams. The hosts have been in scintillating form when playing at the Q2 Stadium this campaign and have yet to lose in their five matches, winning four and drawing the other.
We’re going to back under 2.5 goals as our bet for this match. There is great value in this price given both teams solid defensive records to start the season. The visitors' scoring slump coupled with the fact that on only one occasion have they allowed more than one goal this season should result in a fairly low-scoring match.
