The American has been in fine form on clay where his only title so far has come. He won in Houston for his second career tour title and first on clay. Before this season, Tiafoe had only managed one main draw win at Roland Garros. He has since won twice and has set a new personal record by advancing to this round. His win over Karatsev added 45 points to his ranking tally. If he manages another win, he will move up one place to 12th in the live ranking.
