Alexander Zverev will mark his US Open return with a first-round match against unseeded Aleksandra Vukic on Tuesday. The winner of this tie will set up a second-round match with either Constant Lestienne or Daniel Altmaier. Alexander Zverev missed last season's US Open due to injury. He had made successive semifinal appearances here before this and he will target to pick up from where he left off. The one-time US Open finalist has gradually seen his form get better after a slow start to the year. He has compiled a 38-20 record and has managed one title which came on clay in Hamburg in July. Clay has seen the majority of his victories this season and hard court the second most. The German has won 11 of the 20 matches he has played on the surface. Five of those victories have come in his last 10 fixtures. His run to the semifinal in Cincinnati will add to his confidence. Zverev is ranked 10th in the live ranking, back in the ATP top 10 for the first time since last October.
Aleksandar Vukic starts the week up two places to 48th in the live ranking which is his career high. The Australian is making his US Open main draw debut. He will hope his form on hard court makes this an even more memorable accomplishment. Vukic has compiled a 46-27 record in 2023 with 32 of his victories coming on hard court. He also made his main draw debut at Wimbledon and managed to win his first-round match. This was the second time he had won a match at a Grand Slam and he will hope for the same result here. Vukic has played in three finals thus far this season on the Challenger Tour. Two have been on hard court where he has earned his only silverware of the campaign thus far.
Our prediction for Alexander Zverev v Aleksandar Vukic is for the match to see over 33.5 games played. Both players have good records on hard court this season. Vukic especially has won the majority of his matches on hard courts. He will be a worthy competitor for Zverev who is a former US Open finalist.
