West Bromwich Albion have to wait until Monday to host Southampton. They are one from bottom in the Premier League, with their opponents in 14th position. Albion will have been glad that Fulham (one place above them) lost on Friday evening. They will be overjoyed if 17th placed Newcastle United lose at Burnley on Sunday. At the time of writing this article on Saturday, West Brom are eight points from safety but with a worse goal difference than Newcastle. If United go and win at Burnley, West Brom will be 11 points from safety so they will be Burnley fans on Sunday. Albion won their last league game 5-2 at Chelsea but that ended a run of no wins in three league games. The five goals they scored in that match equalled the number scored in their last eight league fixtures. The fact Chelsea had to play the last 61 minutes with only ten men did of course help West Brom and they had already gone 1-0 down. Their home form is not inspiring with just one win in their last 11 league games at the Hawthorns. That was a lucky one indeed as they beat Brighton 1-0 with the visitors missing two penalties. Albion have only scored more than once in one of their last 13 home league fixtures. That was the 2-2 draw against Fulham who are of course in the bottom three. Each of their last four home league matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored.
Southampton are ten points above the bottom three and look safe from relegation. They won their last game 3-2 against Burnley, after trailing 2-0. That was a much needed win after two straight league defeats. Away form is a big problem for them with only one win in their last nine Premier League fixures. Six of the last seven have ended in defeat and its almost hard to believe that Southampton once topped this table. Now they are 38 points behind leaders Manchester City. The Saints were in so much better form in October when the reverse fixture took place. That saw the Saints get a 2-0 win. Five of their last eight away league fixtures has seen them fail to score. They do tend to concede a lot of goals but can West Brom take advantage of any weaknesses shown by a side with 11 men on the pitch? Go for under 2.5 goals in this game.
