The third international break of this season came after Watford’s first win of the season at the 12th attempt where they beat Norwich 2-0 at Carrow Road to move to 18th in proceedings and now they host 10th placed Burnley at Vicarage Road. The Claret and Blues will make the trip knowing that Watford are yet to win at home this season with three draws and three losses so far most recently losing to Chelsea 2-1. Before that defeat the Hornets drew three straight at home with back-to-back 0-0 draws in that time. Quique Sanchez Flores’s side have kept three clean sheets in their last five games and have tightened up at the back but they still remain offensively the worst side in the division with just eight goals in 12 Premier League games.
As for Burnley they signed off before the international break with a 3-0 win at home to West Ham which followed a 3-0 loss in their last away game at Bramall Lane versus Sheffield United. In fact Burnley’s away record of three draws and three losses matches Watford’s home record so both sides are struggling in those respects but Sean Dyche’s team have managed to score in five of their six away games.
Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood both have five goals each in the PL so far this season and will be looking to add to those tallies during this trip. Four of six Burnley games on the road have witnessed over 2.5 goals.
I have been impressed with how Flores has made this Watford defence more rigid but both teams do know how to find the net albeit not on multiple occasions too frequently. I’m going to tip under 2.5 goals in this match.
