Three teams are still within a chance of lifting the Jupiler Pro League trophy as we enter the final day of fixtures. Our match today sees second-place Union Saint-Gilloise facing off against fourth-place Club Brugge. Union still have a chance to win their first league title in 88 years although they will have to rely on a result elsewhere going their way. Les Unionistes find themselves even on points with league leaders Antwerp but trailing on goal differential. With Genk also trailing the top two by just one point, Union Saint-Gilloise will have to win this match against Brugge and hope that Antwerp fail to defeat Genk in their fixture. The hosts’ last fixture ended in a 1-1 away draw with Antwerp thanks to an 80th minute Cameron Puertas equalizer. The goal means that Union are still alive and with a real shot of ending their title drought. They’ll need to remain focused on the task at hand however, as it will all be for nothing if they fail to get the three points. Union have lost only once in their last six matches, winning three and drawing the other two.
Club Brugge trail the top three by 15 points and have nothing left to play for. They will be competing in the Europa Conference League next season by way of their fourth-place finish. The Blue-Blacks have hit a nasty patch of form and have lost four of their last six matches overall. Their most recent outing ended in a 3-1 home loss to Genk. Playing away from home has caused Club Brugge problems this campaign with just six wins from their 19 away trips. Brugge has put up poor results in the championship round, suffering defeats to Antwerp, Genk and USG all in quick succession. Their last match against Union Saint-Gilloise ended in a 2-1 home loss and it looks unlikely that they will be able to get revenge here.
Union Saint-Gilloise will come into this fixture with belief that they can finally lift the Belgian league title after nearly a century of waiting. The visiting Club Brugge have nothing left to play for as they are locked into their fourth-place position in the championship phase. With USG having much more on the line, we expect them to come out fired up for this one. It could also be an interesting proposition to take Union to win both at half-time and full time as we should see a strong start from them in the first 45 minutes. However, we’ll keep it simple for our wager and back the home side to win. Our Union Saint-Gilloise vs Club Brugge prediction is for USG to win.
