In a tight Group D that is showing early promise of being a group of death, matchday two will see Turkey host Croatia. This match will be played at the Bursa Timsah Arena in Bursa. Turkey are top of the standings after matchday one with three points while Croatia are third with one point. The hosts are looking to qualify for the European Championship for the third time in a row. They started with a 2-1 win over Armenia, coming back from an early goal conceded in the tenth minute. That made it three straight wins, all coming with a 2-1 score. In fact, Turkey’s last four matches have seen the same 2-1 result. With the group expected to be a close-run thing, Turkey would look to maintaining their good form in the qualifying competitions. They have now lost just one of their last 18 Euro qualifiers, winning 13 and drawing five. Better still is their home record with Turkey winning six and drawing one of their last seven home Euro qualifiers.
Croatia were held to a 1-1 draw by Wales on Saturday as a late injury-time equaliser robbed them of full points. The Croats are looking to extend their run of five straight qualifications in the European Championships but will be keen to get back to winning ways. The visitors have been unbeaten in seven games in the Euro qualifiers, but three of those have been draws. The away form is equally dicey with two draws and a win from their last three away matches in the Euro qualifiers. Even with six of their ten historic games against Turkey ending in draws, another stalemate can’t be ruled out.
