Roma will proceed with their top four quest with a visit to Torino on Saturday in round 29 of the Italian Serie A. A gap of 12 points separates the two teams in the league standings; fifth placed Roma on 50 points and 10th placed Torino on 38 points. Torino have been inconsistent this season and have won the same number of matches (10) as they have lost. They have played to draws eight times and it has been hard to call their matches. They come to this game without a win in their last two outings; after losing 4-0 at home to Napoli, they drew 1-1 with Sassuolo last time out. A leaky Torino defence has let in 34 goals so far in the league. This makes theirs the second-worst tally of all the teams in the top 10. That has largely been their undoing and whenever they have managed a shoutout, they have ended up victorious as shown by their last five wins across all competitions. The hosts have struggled to get the better of Roma over the years, but with the capital club arriving for this match in unconvincing form, Ivan Juric’s men will fancy their chances of a win.
Roma have won only one of their last four matches but the positive to this is that this victory came last time out as they secured an emphatic 3-0 win over Sampdoria. They will want to keep this momentum going with the race for a place in next season’s Champions League heating up by the round. Jose Mourinho’s men have blown hot and cold all season and their recent dip in form has seen them drop out of the top four. A positive note, however, is that out of all this, they are just one point away from third as the teams in and around them have also stuttered. A win here will be the perfect base to help them prepare for their Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie with Feyenoord set for next week.
Both Roma and Torino have been inconsistent with their performances in the lead-up to this fixture and this should make this one a cagey affair. Roma have however enjoyed playing against Torino and have a far superior record against their hosts. It is for this reason that we predict that Torino v Roma will serve an away win.
