of the players remaining in the women's singles at Wimbledon, only Simona Halep has won a Grand Slam title. The Romanian takes on 20th seeded Amanda Anisimova in the quarter finals with the winner up against either Elena Rybakina (the 17th seed) or unseeded Ajla Tomljanovic in the last four. Halep won this title in 2019 and this is her first time at Wimbledon since then. She may be the 16th seed but Halep is the highest seeded player in this half of the draw. Halep has had one tournament victory this year and that was one of the pre-Australian Open tournaments held in Melbourne in January. Four other semi-finals have been reached this year, including two on grass. Halep has only had two grass court title wins and the first of those was in 2014. Her performances at Wimbledon this year have been highly impressive though, particularly when beating fourth seeded Paula Badosa in the last round. No sets have been dropped by her so far in this year's tournament.
Amanda Anisimova is the 20th seed and in only her second Grand Slam quarter final. The other was at Roland Garros in 2019 and that saw her beat Halep to reach the last four. Two matches against Halep since then have not gone well for the American. Only four games were won by Anisimova in those matches. The most recent meeting was on grass this year with Halep winning and only dropping three games. Before this week, Anisimova had only won one match in two visits. One title has been won this year and that was the other tournament held in Melbourne. Her best performance since then was a semi-final in Charleston. Only one set has been dropped by her in this tournament. That was when losing the first set to fellow American Lauren Davis in the second round. Coco Gauff was beaten in round three and in the fourth round, the run of Harmony Tan was ended. Halep looks in the better form and has those two impressive wins over her opponent. Back her to win this and have a side bet on a win in straight sets.
