Al Ahly are on course for another CAF Champions League final appearance as they travel to Algeria to face ES Setif in the return leg of their semi final clash. Ahead of this game, Al Ahly lead 4-0 from the opening leg. ES Setif eliminated one giant in Esperance, in the last round of this competition, and will be hoping to dump another out, only that this time the task is tougher, going by the margin of the first leg loss. ES Setif are coming from a 7-0 win over Relizane in the Algerian league and will hope they can fashion another huge win here. That will be a first in four years – the last time they won 4-0 in a Champions League game was in 2018 against Aduana Stars. Their Champions League run ahead of this game isn’t the best, having managed just two wins in the last five matches. They have two losses and failed to score in three of the five.
Al Ahly are looking to successfully defend their title and going into this game they can afford to relax, having a 4-0 lead. The Egyptians have a five-game unbeaten run, but with three draws in there. They have managed just two clean sheets in the last six matches and that is an area coach Pitso Mosimane will be concerned about. In the Champions League too, they have two clean sheets in five matches, but a run of four wins in five will give the coach a lot of confidence. Al Ahly have scored two or more goals in three of five matches in the Champions League, while both sides have scored in three of the last five. It isn’t very rosy away from home though; Al Ahly have managed just one win in the last five Champions League matches.
Al Ahly lead this tie comfortably and will not have to be in a rush to get goals. A home win will be on the cards here, given Setif have been doing well at home while Al Ahly merely scrape through in their away matches. Back Setif to win.
