England begin their 2022 Six Nations campaign with an away Calcutta Cup game in Scotland. They will hope for a much better time this year after finishing fifth in 2021, a place behind Scotland. They had an inconsistent year with wins over France and Italy but losses to Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Their autumn campaign was better though, especially when defeating world champions South Africa and Australia. England are a young side and have said they will be targeting Flynn Russell in this game. Limiting the influence he has will hit Scotland's hopes of a second win in a row against England. Not since 1984 have England been beaten in two consecutive matches by Scotland. They have won four of their last five trips to Murrayfield. Tom Curry will be captaining the side in the absence of the injured Owen Farrell who will miss all of the Six Nations.
Scotland finished fourth last year with three wins and two defeats. They beat England and France on their travels and beat Italy at home, The Scottish side lost at home to Wales but only by a single point. That was followed by a three-point home defeat by Ireland, so they could easily have done the Grand Slam last year. Scotland have won two of their last four games against England, with one draw and a home loss. They also beat Australia last autumn but were beaten by South Africa. They have the quality to win this and with England having injury problems, back them to win this match.
