Schalke 04 v Leipzig Betting Tips [22 February 2020]

RB Leipzig are keeping pace with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga and a 3-0-win last weekend over Werder Bremen leaves them just one point of the record-champions at the top. Leipzig gained a huge advantage in their last-16 tie with Tottenham in the week as they won 1-0 in their away leg. Now, they come to Gelsenkirchen to face Schalke who are 6th on 36 points but falling off the pace after three straight draws. 

Schalke are without a win in four in the Bundesliga which means they have just one win in the league in 2020. At home however, they are unbeaten in 11 games since Bayern Munich came here in August and left with all three points. A goalless draw last time out was a third successive draw for David Wagner’s team and their nine draws means they have drawn more games than any other team this season. Four of those nine draws ended 0-0 and two came in their last three league matches. 

As for Leipzig their win in London during the week ended a four-game winless run on the road although they did get a well-earned point at the Allianz Arena when visiting Bayern Munich, a fortnight ago. Leipzig were 1-0 winners during their last visit here last March but Schalke won the reverse fixture earlier this season 3-1. Leipzig have taken 21 points from their 33 available on the road and they have won six of their 11 matches away from home and have only been handed two losses. Only Bayern with 23 points have accumulated a bigger total on the road this season. 

This is a difficult venue to visit but Leipzig were well worth their win against Tottenham in midweek and I think they will carry that momentum into this weekend rather than having a Champions League hangover so back Leipzig to win this game.
