Racing Santander battle it out with Lugo for the eighteenth gameweek of the Spanish LaLiga 2, in a clash at the lower echelons of the table. Racing conceded a crushing 2-1 defeat to Albacete at the weekend, in what the team’s second consecutive defeat. They are now in an increasingly precarious position in the standings situated a mere two points clear of the relegation zone, while they have tasted victory just once in their last seven games. The obvious issue for Racing this season has been their extremely profligate attack. They have the worst attack in the division, with the meagre nine goals scored in seventeen league showings painting an accurate picture. Racing have replicated that lacklustre form on home turf as well, winning just one of their last eleven home matchups and failing to score in six of those.
Lugo are doing even worse than their opponents, currently in the relegation zone with a poor fifteen points from seventeen league games. The visitors claimed an important point against Levante, one of the top teams this season in the standings, yet it remains to be seen whether this important 1-1 draw will be enough to rekindle their morale ahead of what is set to be a tough December. Lugo have apparent problems on the defensive front, having conceded the second most goals in the entire LaLiga2 standings. They have also been torrid in their recent travels, being winless their last seven encounters on the road. On the upside, they have prevailed in their latest away meetings with Racing, with their record there being 2-1-1.
