PSV Eindhoven host Monaco at the Phillips Stadion for the replay of their 1-1 first leg that leaves everything up for grabs. Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s team are in flying form at the moment, and they confirmed that at the weekend as well, thrashing Emmen 4-1 for the first round of the Dutch Eredivisie. With Cody Gakpo and Gus Tiil in explosive form, the Dutch outfit have now scored ten goals in their first three competitive games of the season, showing that attack is not their concern right now. Keeping things tight on the other side should be a concern however, with PSV having conceded in four consecutive games, while they have not kept a competitive clean sheet since the beginning of April. A positive for the hosts is their impressive home record, where they have managed to win thirteen of their last seventeen games, losing just two of those. What is even more impressive is that they have never failed to score on home soil in 2022, managing to find the back of the net at least once in twenty-eight consecutive games, so fully expect them to nick at least one in this game. They also met Monaco last year for the Group Stages of the Europa League, losing their home meeting 1-2.
Monaco are also coming into this game in fine form. Philippe Clément’s side rescued a vital draw in the first leg that keeps them very much alive for this fixture. They also managed to kick off their Ligue 1 campaign positively, winning 1-2 away in Strasbourg’s tough home soil with a golden goal by Diop in the late stages of the game. This also extended Monaco’s formidable unbeaten run, which now stretches to thirteen games, with Monaco having won ten of those. The visitors will surely need to address their shortcomings in defence however. While the team offers entertainment to the objective viewer, counting four Over 2.5 goals away games on the spin, there are certain defensive issues, with Monaco having conceded in eleven of their last twelve games on the road.
