Defending champions Palmeiras will hope to keep in touch with the Brasileirão leaders when they host basement club Coritiba. This ninth-round match will see the second-place hosts play at the Allianz Parque. Palmeiras were beaten 1-0 by Fortaleza in the Cup competition last time out. Yet, their 3-0 win in the home leg helped them proceed in the competition. That result though extended their indifferent form over the recent games. Palmeiras have now won just twice across their last six matches, drawing three. In the league campaign too, they have drawn three games in a row. This sequence has left them trailing leaders Botafogo by five points ahead of this round. Playing at home could revive their hopes having won three and drawn one of their last four league matches here.
Coritiba are stuck to the basement of the campaign table with only three points. In fact, they are the only side yet to win a match in this season. The visitors are coming off a 1-1 draw last time out which extended their winless run to ten competitive matches. Coritiba have at least been showing the spunk by pinching a goal in their last six league matches. Interestingly, that was also the case in their last three away league matches. That said, with only a point from their four away league matches this season, Coritiba are struggling to stay afloat.
