Aryna Sabalenka is in scorching form and is seeking her second Grand Slam victory of the year after taking down the Australian Open back in January. This is Sabalenka’s third time making the semi-final of a Grand Slam in 2023 after her defeat to Karolina Muchova at Roland Garros in June. It is also her fourth straight semi-final appearance in Grand Slams overall. In addition to her first ever Wimbledon crown, Sabalenka is also hunting the number one WTA ranking. A win over Jabeur here would see her overtake Iga Swiatek, who was eliminated from this tournament in the quarter-finals. The Belarussian defeated 25th-seeded Madison Keys in the quarter-final in straight sets to advance to this stage. The victory was representative of the dominance that Sabalenka has displayed at this tournament. The 25-year-old has lost only one set in her five matches so far at Wimbledon, recording four victories by way of straight sets.
Ons Jabeur comes into this clash looking for a repeat trip to the Wimbledon final. The Tunisian exacted her revenge in the quarter-final where she came back from a one set deficit to defeat defending champion Elena Rybakina by two sets to one. Rybakina defeated Jabeur in the 2022 Wimbledon final, denying the Tunisian her first Grand Slam victory. Jabeur has only made it to two Grand Slam finals in her career, both occurring in 2022 when she also lost in the US Open final to Iga Swiatek. Despite struggling in the warm-up grass tournaments where she lost two of three outings, Jabeur has turned it on when it counts. She has won three of her five matches in straight sets this tournament. Additionally, the 28-year-old has shown excellent heart to twice come back from a one set deficit to claim the win; in the third round against Andreescu and in the quarter-final against the defending champion.
This should be an excellent match of tennis with both athletes in fine form. However, Aryna Sabalenka’s scintillating play in 2023 is hard to look past and we expect the Belarussian star to continue on to the final. The oddsmakers understandably have Sabalenka as the favorite to get the win but this is still a good enough price to back the Belarussian. Jabeur has done well to reach this stage but her history against her opponent today doesn’t bode well for her. Our Ons Jabeur vs Aryna Sabalenka prediction is for Sabalenka to win the match.
