Northern Ireland will be on the search for their first win in Group 2 of League C in the Nations League when they play host to Kosovo. The home team is in third place with two points and Kosovo are second on six points. Northern Ireland have managed two wins in the last 10 matches, and none has come inside the last five matches. These wins came against very weak opposition – Lithuania and Luxembourg. They’ve failed to score in three of the last five matches and though they did score twice in each of the last two, they conceded five times. They lost 3-2 away to Kosovo in a game they put up a big fight after going 2-0 down but their real fighting spirit was seen in their last game, Northern Ireland came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Cyprus. Three times in four matches, Northern Ireland have trailed at the break.
Kosovo will go into this game seeking to bounce back from their loss to Greece. Both their losses in this game have been against Greece and this is a game they will walk into, confident of collecting three points. They can’t finish top of this group but a win will ensure they don’t have to worry about any possibility of fighting relegation. They beat Northern Ireland 3-2 in their first meeting, and that was their second win in this group, also the second time in four matches that they managed at least two goals. Kosovo, however, have managed just one clean sheet in their last five matches, and have failed to score in two of the last three. While they have the look of the favorites in this game, Kosovo will have to improve on their away form, having managed just one win in five away matches.
Both these teams aren’t doing so well but Kosovo will take to the game a better run. Their main worry though will have to be in their performances away from home. It should offer the visitors some comfort that Northern Ireland have no win in the last five matches, and even at home they haven’t been that strong. Go for a draw in this game.
