A 2-1 win for Liverpool against Aston Villa on Saturday evening kept their hopes for making the top-four in the Premier League alive. The Reds moved to 6th just three points off West Ham in 4th but they have work to do if they are to stay in this year’s competition. Real Madrid hold a 3-1 lead coming into the second-leg after their win at home last week and they will fancy their chances of seeing the job through after going top of La Liga with an El Clasico win over Barcelona at the weekend.
Liverpool hadn’t scored a goal from open play at Anfield in 2020 until the weekend but they will take confidence from Trent Alexander-Arnold's late winner on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s men had lost six games in a row when hosting and they did lose their last European game on home soil when Atalanta came to Anfield and won 2-0 back in November. Liverpool have won four of their last five games coming into this one and that run started with a 2-0 victory over Leipzig in the second-leg of their last-16 tie but they must sort out their home form if they are to stand any chance here and having conceded in each of their last seven home matches it could be costly here.
Real Madrid meanwhile, continued their great run of form with a 2-1 win over Barcelona. Los Blancos went level on points with Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga but they hold top spot on goal difference. Real Madrid have won each of their last six matches in all competitions. Madrid got by Atalanta in the last-16 with a win in both legs and cruised through 4-1 on aggregate. They have a 3-1 advantage coming into this game and with five wins in their last six matches on the road they will fancy their chances of seeing this tie through.
