With their English Premier League title race with Manchester City reaching a crucial stage, Liverpool will set that aside for a moment as they on Portuguese giants FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg at Anfield. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions, including winning the last five. The Reds are in even better form at home, staying unbeaten this season since losing 2-1 to Chelsea last September. They are now unbeaten in 16 home fixtures in all competitions (W13, D3). Champions League form has been indifferent for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who have won only four of their eight fixtures in this competition. Port warmed up for this match with a 2-0 win over Boavista in the Portuguese League making it five wins in six (W5, D1) for the visitors. They have lost only twice in all competitions since the start of October last year and that is a reflection of their excellent form. In the Champions League, Porto have lost only once this season, winning six of the eight so far (W6, D1, L1). That included a come-from-behind 4-2 aggregate win over AS Roma in the previous round.
Liverpool have been excellent against Bayern Munich in the previous round and will look to continue in the same vein. Their impregnable defence has, however, started leaking goals and that could be a concern. Porto have shown that they have the right team and combination to upset the odds and calculations of their esteemed hosts. However, it is still a Reds’ game to win.
