Group G leaders Hungary will look to consolidate their position atop the standings when they take on fourth-place Lithuania for this 2024 Euros qualifying match. Hungary maintain a three-point lead in the group over second-place Serbia and also have the benefit of a game in hand advantage. With Serbia facing off against third-place Montenegro, a win for Hungary here would guarantee their spot in the 2024 Euros. Lithuania, on the other hand, will need a minor miracle if they are to book their ticket to Germany. While they are not technically eliminated, the odds are certainly stacked against them. The first task for Rinktine will be to beat Hungary and hope that Montenegro are able to beat Serbia.
Hungary come into this fixture as the away side and are in fine form with a lengthy nine match unbeaten run. Their last outing resulted in a 2-1 home win over Serbia with all three goals scored in the first half. The victory was the third in the last four for the Magyarok who are still unbeaten in the qualifying campaign with four wins and a draw. Hungary’s last away match also finished in a 2-1 win over Serbia as the team came back from a goal down to secure the win.
Lithuania were able to keep their slim qualification hopes alive with a 2-0 away win over Bulgaria in their last fixture. It was an impressive result given Lithuania’s previous away form which saw them fail to win in eight previous away trips. They’ll return to the home crowd now with a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since October of 2020. Lithuania should receive a huge boost of confidence after finally putting an end to a 15-match winless streak.
