Lens v Ajaccio Betting Tips [27 May 2023]

Second from the top will take on second from the bottom when Lens hosts Ajaccio in Ligue 1 action on Saturday evening. The title challengers are six points behind PSG at the top, while Ajaccio are ten points from safety and will have to prepare for life in Ligue 2 next season. Lens title fate is out of their hands, as PSG only requires one point in the last two games this season to secure the trophy. With an away match to Auxerre left to play after this one, Lens will want to secure their Champions League qualification with a win here. They are currently five points above Marseille in third. The hosts have been excellent in the final weeks of this season. They come into this one on a five-match winning streak and have lost just once in their last ten league games. Lens have also been formidable at Stade Bollaert-Delelis this term, losing only once in 18 home matches, along with 16 wins and a draw. They’re unbeaten in their last seven at home, with six wins and a draw. The reverse fixture ended in a stalemate back in August, but Lens will be expected to come out on top this time around. 

Meanwhile, in complete contrast, Ajaccio have had a very poor season and have been unable to maintain their Ligue 1 status in their first season back in the top flight. The visitors lost their last match 5-0 to Rennes, which was their second consecutive 5-0 loss in a week. With that, they have now failed to win any of their last 11 league matches, losing eight and drawing three. The last time Ajaccio won a match was at the end of February. In away matches, Ajaccio have taken just 11 points of a possible 54 this season, and are on a seven-match losing streak. The visitors have failed to beat this opponent in their last three attempts, losing twice and drawing the most recent clash. With Marseille still to face in their final league fixture next week, Ajaccio could still concede a fair few more before the season is over.

While they may not be able to do much about stopping PSG from lifting the title this season, Lens will want to secure automatic Champions League qualification in this one. It’s also their final home match of the season, and they will want to give their home fans something to cheer after what’s been a fairly successful season.
