Bayern Munich continue their defence of their Champions League title. We're at the last sixteen stage now and Bayern travel to Italy to take on Lazio in the first leg of this tie. Bayern were recently crowned World champions and top the Bundesliga by five points, despite losing at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. That ended an eight-game unbeaten run but they won't be too happy about conceding five goals in the last two games. They had no problems in their Champions League group finishing top by seven points. They won five out of their six group games and scored 18 goals. Tthe other group match was a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid when fielding a weakened side as they'd already qualified. That draw is the only one of their last 17 games in this competition that they haven't won. They are unbeaten in their last 19 Champions League away games, the last loss being to PSG in 2017.
Lazio finished second in their group behind Borussia Dortmund. They only won two of their six games with the others all being drawn. Both of their wins came at home by a 3-1 scoreline as they beat Dortmund and Zenit St Petersburg. Only one of their last eight Champions League games has been lost but just one of the last ten on the road won. They will know full well that a good home result is vital to their qualification hopes. Current form has seen them beat Sampdoria 1-0 at home on Saturday and their last ten league and cup games have produced eight wins and two losses, both away from home. Their last seven home matches have all been won but this is a massive step up for them. Bayern will exploit any errors they make. Lazio have conceded in five of their last seven games, Bayern can get on target and win this game.
