Turkey still have a chance of making the World Cup qualifying play-offs. They are third in Group G and travel to Lativa who are one from bottom with only one win in seven games. The Turks made a great start to this group with a 4-2 home win over the Netherlands. A 3-0 win in Norway and they went into the European Championships with seven points from three games. Then came Euro 2020 where they lost all three group games. Since then, they have had one win in four games in this World Cup qualifying group and had a 6-1 loss in the Netherlands. Three games remain and they play Lativa and then Gibraltar at home, before going to Montenegro in their final match. They have to get wins over Latvia and Gibraltar and hope Norway slip up. The reverse fixture against Lativa might in the end cost them dearly. They led 2-0 and 3-1 but ended up drawing 3-3.
Latvia only have five points in this group. They beat Gibraltar and drew in Turkey and Montenegro. Latvia beat Gibraltar at home but have lost their other three qualifiers. They have only won three of their last 12 games with wins over Gibraltar, Lithuania and Andorra. Just two of their last ten home World Cup qualifiers have been won with seven of them being lost. No goals have been scored in their last two home matches, back Turkey to get an important away win.
