Whatever the result of this match we'll have an unseeded player in the Roland Garros semi-finals. Former finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova takes on Karolina Muchova for a place in the last four. It'll be stiff opposition in the next round with either second seeded Aryna Sabalenka or unseeded Elina Svitolina being faced. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was a losing finalist at Roland Garros two years ago. Lsst year saw her miss out due to a knee injury and that caused her to plummet down the rankings. Only a protected ranking earned her a place in the main draw of this tournament. At the start of it she was ranked 333rd but is up to 112th now and beating Muchova will take her into the top 60. The 31-year-old is playing her third clay court quarter final of the year and it's clearly her best surfae. It's not been an easy route to the last eight though with three matches seeing her lose the first set. Three seeds have been knocked out by her with the highest ranked one being 15th seed Liudmila Samsonova.
Karolina Muchova has also had to fight her way back up the rankings after injury. The former world number 19 was down at 43rd when this Roland Garros tournament began. Her run to the last eight has seen her ranking rise to 27th and win here will take her back to that career high of 19th. This is the first time she's made it past the third round at Roland Garros. Two seeds have been beaten and that includes the eighth seeded Maria Sakkari in the first round. The last round saw her get a straight sets victory over lucky loser Elina Avanesyan. Muchova has played her opponent on three previous occasions and is 2-1 down, One of those matches was on clay and it was Pavlyuchenkova who won that without dropping a set. It was tight though with both sets going to a tie-break. Another long match looks likely here and we go for a bet on over 21.5 games to be played.
