Spain and Japan have already qualified for the knockout stages of the 2023 Women's World Cup. They have both won their first two games with Spain ahead on goal difference. Now they face each other to battle it out for top spot in Group C. The winners of this group take on the runners-up in Group A with the team finishing second up against the winners of that group. Spain have made a great start to this tournament and are now joint favourites with the USA to win the cup with some bookies. They began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Costa Rica and followed that up with a 5-0 victory over Zambia. The Spaniards have now won eight games (one an unofficial friendly) with 29 goals scored in the last five. It's not all about scoring lots of goals though as all those wins have been achieved with clean sheets. This is only their third appearance in the finals of the Women's World Cup and they reached the last 16 four years ago. Last year they got to the last eight of the European championships for the third successive tournament.
Japan are ranked 11th in the world which is five places below their opponents. They have also had two comfortable wins in this group beating Zambia 5-0 and then Costa Rica 2-0. They are former world champions but that was achieved 12 years ago. Their last three games have been won by an aggregate score of 12-0 but they have lost three matches this year. Losses were inflicted on them by Brazil and the USA in the She Believes Cup and also by Denmark in a friendly. Three of their four previous games against Spain have been lost. We go for the Spanish side to get the win here.
