Iga Swiatek bids to reach the Roland Garros final for the third time in four years. The top seed takes on 14th seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia and knows losing see no longer being the world number one. Swiatek is second in the live rankings and must do better than Aryna Sabalenka to be world number one at the end of this tournament. Whoever wins this semi-final will take on either Sabalenka or unseeded Karolina Muchova in the final. Swiatek has won two tournaments this year with just one of them being on clay. That was the indoor event held in Stuttgart where Swiatek beat Sabalenka. The 22-year-old is yet to drop a set in this tournament and has won her last 12 matches played at Roland Garros. The last eight saw her have a rematch from last year's final. Coco Gauff was beaten in straight sets and we fancy Swiatek to do that to Maia in this match.
Before this tournament Beatriz Haddad Maia had never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam. Her record at Roland Garros has been poor with just one main draw match won. It's all changed for the world number 14 this year and the Brazilian is up to a career high tenth in the live rankings. It's not been an easy route to the semi-finals with four sets being dropped. Three times the 14th seed has had to fight back after losing the first set. If that happens in this semi-final it'll need the performance of a lifetime to get back into the match. There's been one previous meeting and Mai was the winner in Toronto last year. That was on a hard court though. On clay, we go for Swiatek to win in straight sets.
