The LA Lakers are aiming to leave the Houston Rockets of the brink of elimination in game four of this semi-final series. The Lakers could go 3-1 ahead with a win on Thirsday and be just one game away from an Eastern Conference final and possibly an all Los Angeles affair with their neighbours, the Clippers. Rockets' coach Mike D'Antoni sighted fatigue as the reasoning for why his team dropped off in the fourth quarter of game three. Houston were outscored by 30 points to 20 in the final period to leave them with a 2-5 record in play-off games this year that were within five points or fewer heading into the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, they still have the firepower to turn this deficit around as they boast world-beater and the post-season's leading scorer James Harden in their ranks, The Beard has scored 30.4 points per game in the play-offs. Houston lost game three by 10 points, 112-102, despite being tied at the end of the third quarter and three ahead at the half. If they are there or there abouts heading into the dying embers of the game surely their fortunes will change and they will come out on the right side of a result.
The Lakers, meanwhile, have been the most efficient team offensively in the play-offs, averaging 1.15 points per possession. LeBron James and Anthony Davies combined for 62 points in game three, with LeBron going big in the second half for seven rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Veteran Rajon Rondo helped the cause by becoming the first player since James in 2010 with the Cleveland Cavaliers to record at least 12 points and five assists in the final quarter. (STATS)
Houston have all the assets required to take this series all the way. Their big guns are still firing albeit not in the crunch periods of games but if they were to get that right I feel Houston wouldn't be too far away and that's why I'm tipping a +5.0 point spread for Houston.
