Houston Rockets have an uphill task of stopping the LA Lakers juggernaut as they look to override the 2-1 deficit in Game 4 of the Western Conference semi-final at the AdventHealth Arena in Orlando. The Rockets won game 1 of the series 112-97, but the Lakers bounced back with back-to-back wins.
After winning Game 2 117-109, the Lakers defeated the Rockets 112-102 on Tuesday night to take a 2-1 lead in the series. After a poor start to the series, the Lakers have made swift changes to their play and have bounced back. The last two clashes have seen the Lakers covert 56% and 55% of their field goals respectively, adding weight to their game. Star player LeBron James was once again the core of their success, pocketing 36 points and adding seven assists in the last game. The three-time NBA Champion has an average of 28 points this series and looms as their biggest threat. Even Anthony Davis has been in his elements with the forward earning double-double in all three games.
The Rockets started the semis with a convincing win in Game 1, but that is a distant memory now. Another loss in this match would all but end their chances of reaching the finals. As usual, a lot will depend on James Harden with the ‘Beard’ collecting 33 points on Tuesday night and now averages 32 points and seven assists in the semis. The performance of Russell Westbrook will be crucial, though, as the veteran point guard looks to build on his output in Game 3 – 30 points and eight rebounds. Excelling beyond the arc has worked to the Rockets’ advantage, but they struggled to contain the Lakers inside the arc.
All eyes will be on LeBron James, but it is Anthony Davis who has been hogging the headlines. The lanky forward has posted a double-double in six of the eight playoff games this season averaging 29.3 points and 10.8 rebounds during the playoffs. The Rockets will hope that Russell Westbrook will provide adequate support to James Harden as they desperately search for a win. The Lakers, though, look all set to continue their upward trajectory. Back them to win this with a spread of -5.0, that is a minimum of six points.
