It’s still early days in Brazil’s top flight as matchday six of the Brasileirão kicks off this weekend with Goias hosting Santos at the Estádio da Serrinha. Santos currently sit second in the Brasileirão table with 10 points from their first five matches and trail leaders Corinthians by just two points. The Peixe are coming off a convincing 3-0 Copa do Brasil win in midweek which was preceded by a 4-1 thrashing of Cuiaba in the league last week. Santos will have a rest disadvantage in this match as their involvement in the Copa Sudamericana means that games are coming every three to four days. Their opponents have had a full week of rest after a 1-0 away win against Atletico GO in their last match snapped an eight match winless run dating back to March. Goias sit 16th in the table with five points and hold a two-point cushion above the relegation zone albeit with plenty of football left to be played.
Santos certainly haven’t been the best when playing away from home which explains the oddsmakers pricing them at such generous odds. However, there have been encouraging performances in recent matches that point towards the visitors being able to walk away with the three points in this match. Santos’ last away trip resulted in a 1-0 win against Universidad Catolica at a tough venue to play in the Chilean capital. While Santos weren’t at their best on the day, they were able to withstand the storm from the hosts and come away with a hard fought three points. Santos were able to build off of that win and have now struck seven goals in their last two matches. Goias have put in a few decent home performances, including holding both Palmeiras and Atletico MG to draws in recent weeks, but will face another tough test with the welcome of an in-form Santos team.
We’re going to back both teams to score as our bet for this match. There is some definite value in this price given the history of this fixture and the current goal scoring form both sides find themselves in. Santos will have to battle tired legs which does give the hosts a significant advantage. We see this match fishing at least 1-1 with the visitors being the more likely side to edge it.
