In what is proving to be a tight Group ‘E’ Champions League campaign, Liverpool will look for their second win in three matches as they travel to Genk.
The hosts have just one point from two games this season in the Champions League. That came from the goalless draw against Napoli last time around, playing at home. However, that only extended their winless streak in the competition. Genk are now winless in the competition since a 2-1 win over Maccabi Haifa in 2011. They have lost four of their last seven Champions League matches and failed to score in three of those losses. However, Genk’s home form in the competition has been impressive. They have drawn their last four Champions League home matches and are unbeaten at home since 2007. That includes two wins and four draws along the way.
Liverpool have seen their winning run halted in the weekend. A 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Manchester United in the Premier League came after five wins in all competitions. Their league phase commitments started with a 2-0 loss to Napoli. The Reds bounced back with a 4-3 home win over Salzburg in their next match. However, Liverpool are struggling to keep a tab on their defensive problems this season. Six of their last eight matches in all competitions have seen them concede a goal. That could be of interest to the hosts, as they search for ways of upsetting the visitors.
Liverpool are looking to end their streak of away defeats in the Champions League, but Genk will not be a pushover. This is the first-ever fixture between these sides, but expect it to be a tight encounter. Looking at how Liverpool have been leaking goals in the recent matches, this might also see them struggle to pick up a clean sheet.
