Craven Cottage will play host to a basement battle as Fulham welcome West Brom to London. Two sides promoted from the Championship last season will go head-to-head with both teams still searching for their first win of the campaign. West Brom gave it their all in the second-half on Monday night against Brighton and fought back to earn a well-deserved point in a 1-1 draw taking them to 17th while Fulham lost 2-1 to London rivals Crystal Palace and remain bottom of the pile.
Scott Parker’s Fulham team could well have taken something from their defeat to Palace but it wasn’t to be and Parker knows that his side must start picking up points rather than dwelling on missed opportunities. The hosts have lost five of their six games so far picking up their only point away to Sheffield United. Tom Cairney’s 95th minute goal last weekend was Fulham’s first at the cottage in three home games with the team having shipped eight goals across those matches.
As for Slaven Bilic and West Brom they drew their second game in succession and for the third time in four matches. The 1-1 stalemate at the AMEX Stadium followed a goalless draw with Burnley and a 3-3 thriller with Chelsea either side of a defeat to Southampton. The Baggies, like their hosts, are still chasing that elusive three points to perhaps separate themselves from the struggling pack and that should make for an interesting game here.
After a harsh return to the top-flight for both these sides they have reverted to a more defensive first approach. Fulham’s first three matches produced 4.3 goals on average as they shipped 10 goals in those games and that has reduced significantly to two goals per game on average across their last three. West Brom’s first three fixtures produced 5.6 goals per game with just four goals scored across their last three games. Back under 2.5 goals here.
