Forest Green take time off from their League 1 relegation battle to host Alvechurch in the FA Cup second round. The home side are six points from safety but will be confident of reaching the FA Cup third round. Only three league games have been won by Forest Green this year but two came at home. One of those two home victories was against promotion seeking Bolton Wanderers. Over 90 minutes, only one of their last four matches has ended in defeat. They also met non-league opposition in the FA Cup first round. Forest Green won 2-0 at South Shields, both goals being scored by Conor Wickham.
Alvechurch play in the Southern League Premier Divison Central and are bidding to reach the third round for only the second time. The previous time in the FA Cup third round was back in 1973/74 when they lost 4-2 at Bradford City, not the big game they'd have hoped for. Alvechurch are 20th in their league but they have played between five and seven games less than other teams in the seventh tier of English football. It'd take them three promotions just to get in the English Football League. Five games have had to be won to reach the FA Cup second round. Round one saw them cause a shock when winning at League Two Cheltenham Town. Danny Waldron scored both of their goals and he hit a hat-trick in their 4-3 loss at Leiston in the FA Trophy last week. Forest Green should be able to get a home win here.
