Debutants Midtylland from Denmark will welcome Serie A side Atalanta to the MCH Arena for their first ever Champions League group game. The new boys defeated Ludogorets, Young Boys and Slavia Prague to reach the group stage but have been dealt a tough draw with Liverpool and Ajax making up the rest of the group. The Danish hosts come into this game off the back of a 3-1 win over Odense at the weekend to leave them 5th after five games. That win extended their winning run at home to five matches which includes victories over Young Boys (3-0) and Slavia Prague (4-1).
Meanwhile, Atalanta make a return to Europe’s top table after an incredible maiden campaign last season. The Italian side lost their opening three group games last season but picked up seven points from their final three matches to advance to the knockout stages. Atalanta were impressive as they swept aside Valencia 8-4 on aggregate and led PSG in the quarter-final 1-0 before conceding two goals in stoppage time. Their fairy-tale run ended in heartbreak but they are back again and will be confident of finishing second in this group. Atalanta won their opening three games of the Serie A season scoring 13 goals but were beaten 4-1 by Napoli on Saturday leaving them third after four games.
Atalanta always seem to get on the scoresheet but they do have a few injuries coming into this game and their fragile back-line was exposed by Napoli at the weekend. Given the recent results of the home side I'm confident in tipping over 2.5 goals in this match.
