Bayern Munich can become only the seventh team ever to win all six matches of a UEFA Champions League group stage, when they play Tottenham Hotspur in Group ‘B’ finale. Both teams are assured of a place in the final, with Bayern top of the group with 15 points and Tottenham second with ten points.
Bayern have won their first five matches of the campaign to confirm their progression as the group winner. That includes a record-breaking 7-2 win in the reverse fixture at London. Bayern’s record at home in the Champions League has been impressive as well. The German Bundesliga giants have won four of their last eight Champions League home matches. However, they have won 16 of their last 17 home matches in the Champions League group stage fixtures. The hosts are the only side with maximum points after five matches in the Champions League. They remain the only side with maximum points in this year campaign before the start of this match.
Tottenham are buzzing under new manager Jose Mourinho, with four wins in five competitive matches. That included a 4-2 win over Olympiacos in the fifth round of the Champions League, where they came back from two goals down. In fact, after picking up just one point in their first two matches, Spurs have risen up to the task by notching three straight Champions League wins. However, they have been poor on their travels in the competition. Tottenham have picked up only two points away from home in the Champions League this campaign. Additionally, they have won just four of their 14 away group stage matches in the competition. Interestingly though, they have lost just once in their last six visits to Germany, winning three and drawing two.
Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have nothing left to play for in this match, considering they have booked their top-two spots respectively. Tottenham are bringing a good spate of recent form under Mourinho, but this will be a different proposition. Bayern will fancy their chances and although it is tough to pick a winner, there are goals in this match.
