Everton are in the red; it hasn’t been a good season and the loss to Newcastle United in their last game made matters even tougher. They will be at home to welcome Leeds United in their next league game, on Saturday, hoping for a better outcome. Everton go into this game having so far garnered 19 points, and are placed 16th while Leeds are a place above them, with 23 points. New Everton manager Frank Lampard guided the team to a 4-1 over Brentford in the FA Cup in his first game in charge, but couldn’t engineer a second as they turned focus to the league. A 3-1 loss to an improving Newcastle United side posed all the questions again, if the Toffees are good enough to stay up. They are now just two points above the relegation region and any more dropped points at this point will turn detrimental. Their only wins in the last five matches have been in the FA Cup. In the league, Everton have four straight losses ahead of this game and from a possible 30 points in the last 10 games, they have managed just four points. At home, in the league, Everton have five losses in the last seven, and managed just one clean sheet.
Leeds United are coming from a 3-3 draw with Aston Villa; they scored first through Dan James but fell behind 3-1 then fought hard for a share of the spoils. While they are faced with a growing injury list, a big positive for Leeds is that the goals are finally coming, with Raphinha, Dan James and Jack Harrison the key men. Three times in the last five matches, Leeds United have scored three goals, and having garnered seven points from their last four matches will give them the impetus going into this clash. Away from home, they are unbeaten in their last two league matches; a draw with Aston Villa in their most recent game, and earlier they beat West Ham United. Leeds have scored six goals in their last two away league matches. They will be looking to do better than their 2-2 draw with Everton in the first leg meeting, and a key man for them here will be Raphinha, who has scored in each of the last three meetings with Everton.
Leeds United are on a better run than Everton as they go to this game. The fight back to collect a point from the game against Aston Villa will definitely inspire Leeds and their scoring run, with a number of forwards in good form will definitely be an additional advantage. Everton have been poor and not even at home have they been able to impress, while injuries to key men aren’t helping. In the two sides’ recent form, we will back Leeds United to win.
