England begin their World Cup qualifying campaign with a home game against San Marino. The other countries in this group are Poland, Hungary, Albania and Andorra so not the most difficult one to win. England will want to bounce back from their Nations League exit at the hands of Belgium and Denmark. They have had two good wins in the last couple played at home beating Ireland and Iceland, scoring seven and not conceding. England have won 11 of their 12 home games played since the last World Cup. Only one home World Cup qualifying game has been lost this century. That was to Germany in 2000 and they did rather well in the return match! They don't have any major injury problems and should get off to a convincing win here.
San Marino last won a match seven years ago and that was a hybrid friendly. They have had a couple of draws in recent Nations League matches. That sees the country ranked 210th in the world up against similar poor quality teams. Draws came against home and away against Liechtenstein. They finished bottom of the League D group and didn't score a goal. San Marino haven't scored in their last seven internationals. Their last goal was in a 3-1 home loss to Kazakhstan and that's their only successful strike in their last 24 international matches. It probably gets played on local TV every week. Their last 21 away World Cup qualifiers have all been lost. There have been some pretty heavy defeats and another is on the way here. Go for England to win on a -6 handicap.
