England are two points clear at the top after winning their first two group matches. They host Poland who are in second place with four points from their couple of fixtures. England will expect to finish this set of qualifiers top with nine points. They began their campaign with a comfortable 5-0 home win over San Marino. That was followed by a 2-0 away win in Albania making it three wins out of three with 13 goals scored and none conceded. Home form has seen them win 12 of their last 13 games, the other a 1-0 defeat by Denmark in the Nations League. Nine clean sheets have been kept in those matches. England always seem to get drawn against Poland in competitions. Of 19 previous games played, the last 17 have been in either the World Cup or European Championships.
Only once have England lost to Poland and that was a World Cup qualfifer 48 years ago. Poland are likely to have to wait a bit longer for another victory. Poland started this group with a 3-3 draw in Hungary. They were 2-0 and 3-2 down but a late Robert Lewandowski goal earned them a point. They got their first win with a home victory over Andorra. Lewandowski scored two more in that game but the bad news for Poland is that the Bayern Munich striker will miss this game. With home advantage though, England can get a third win in this group.
