Its taken 17 years but finally Elize Cornet is in the quarter finals of a Grand Slam. The French player takes on American 27th seed Danielle Collins in the last eight. The winner takes on either Iga Swiatek or Kaia Kenepi for a place in the final against either Ashleigh Barty or Madison Keys. Cornet had reached the fourth round of all the Grand Slam events but never gone one step further. The world number 61 (37th in the live rankings) didn't have a good preparation for this tournament but there were signs of her being potentially dangerous. That was shown when taking Naomi Osaka (who she will now be ahead of in the rankings) to three sets. So far in this tournament, Cornet has beaten the third seeded Garbine Muguruza, Tamara Zidansek (seeded 29th) and in the last 16, the 14th seed Simone Halep. Her last two matches have both gone to a final set.
27th seed Danielle Collins is trying to make it to her second Australian Open semi-final. 2019 saw her reach the last four and the American is favourite to do so again this year. World ranked 30th, Collins is up to 21st in the live rankings and can move up to 14th if beating Cornet. Collins didn't play a warm-up event but is continuing the form that took her to the semi-finals of her last event of 2021 in Linz, Austria. The last two rounds have seen her beat Clara Tauson and 19th seeded Elise Mertens. Both matches saw her lose the first set but fight back to get the win. Bet on this match to go to three sets.
