Colombia and South Korea will lock horns on Tuesday to begin their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign. The two nations are pooled in Group H alongside Germany and Morocco. Ranked 25th in the world, Colombia are back on the global stage after missing out on the 2019 edition in France. This is their third World Cup and they will seek to qualify from the group stage as they did in 2015. Nelson Abadia’s charges have struggled for form coming into the tournament and have won only once in their last six matches. They have proved difficult to beat though as they have drawn three times. In their final build-up match, they drew 2-2 with China. This was the 14th successive match that Las Chicas Superpoderosas had found the back of the net. Their attacking attributes will be key in making this tournament a success for them.
South Korea have qualified for their fourth FIFA World Cup. In the three previous appearances, they made it out of their group only once, in 2015. In the other two tournaments, 2003 and 2019, they exited without winning a single match. They will hope that this isn’t the case this time around. Colin Bell’s charges are ranked 17th in the world and qualified for the tournament after finishing as runners-up in last year’s Asia Cup. The Taegeuk Ladies arrive for the tournament in superb shape. They have won their last three matches scoring 12 goals in the process. After defeating Zambia in back-to-back build-up matches, scoring 10 goals, and conceding two, South Korea defeated Haiti 2-1 last time out. They will hope to remain menacing in attack throughout the tournament.
Our prediction for Colombia v South Korea is for both teams to score. Both teams have shown in recent matches that goals aren’t that hard to come by. We expect this to be the case again in this match as both have also been leaky at the back.
