After a brilliant display in the Champions League, Chelsea now look to push their winning streak to three consecutive matches when they host Wolverhampton at Stamford Bridge for matchday 10 of the Premier League. The Blues are coming off a convincing 3-0 home victory over Italian Serie A champions AC Milan in their last outing and have yet to lose under new manager Graham Potter. Chelsea’s 4-1-2 record puts them on 13 points and has them sitting fifth in the league table, eight points behind leaders and London rivals Arsenal. Their opponents come into this game in desperate need of a positive result after a 1-3-4 start to the season has Wolves sitting in the relegation zone. Bruno Lange’s side has lost its past two outings in the Premier League with the most recent a 2-0 away defeat to West Ham. Wolverhampton is still seeking its first away win of the season after losing three and drawing only once in their four away trips.
Chelsea will come into this match in excellent spirits after the crucial Champions League victory over a very good Milan side. Graham Potter’s 3-4-2-1 system was working to perfection as the Blues smothered the Italian champions all night, allowing their opponents only four total shots and one clear cut scoring chance. They will face a different test in this one against a Wolves side with their backs against the wall early in the season as they look to dig themselves out of this early hole. Bruno Lange has been unlucky with the results his team have been getting on the pitch as Wolves haven’t been playing as bad as it may seem. The visitors only allowed one total clear cut chance in their last two matches despite falling to a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City and a 2-0 loss to West Ham. Without some excellent finishing Wolverhampton could likely have gotten at least something from those two encounters.
We’re going to back Wolves on the +1.5 Asian Handicap as our bet for this match. This means that any result other than a two or more goal margin of defeat will result in our bet cashing. This is a potentially dangerous spot for Chelsea coming off the big Champions League win and could very well turn out to be a let down spot for them if they are not careful. Wolves have been their usual stubborn-selves this season but have really struggled at finding the net. They should be able to at least keep this one to within one goal off the back of their solid defense.
