Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will seek to protect his unbeaten record on grass when he battles unseeded Matteo Berrettini on Monday at Wimbledon. Alcaraz is having his best-ever season on grass. The Spaniard has won all eight matches he has played on the surface. He won his first tour title on grass when he won in London just before arriving at Wimbledon. This was the fifth title of the season for Alcaraz who is highly tipped to end Novak Djokovic’s winning streak at Wimbledon. The current world number one dropped his first set of the competition in the last round against Nicolas Jarry. He won 3-1 with the match lasting for almost four hours. Alcaraz has defeated Berrettini twice in the three encounters between them thus far.
Matteo Berrettini missed last season’s championship after testing positive for Covid-19. He has returned this season looking sharp after struggling with injury earlier in the season. The Italian made it to the final in his last appearance here in 2021. He is a strong performer on grass and has four titles to his name on the surface. To book this match with Alcaraz, Berrettini defeated 19th seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets. It was the second 3-0 victory for him in the competition and took his record for the season to 12 wins in 20 matches. Berrettini is currently ranked 31st in the live ranking, which is a seven-place leap from his last ranking. The winner of this fourth-round tie will play either sixth seed Holger Rune or 21st seed Grigor Dimitrov next.
Our prediction for Carlos Alcaraz v Matteo Berrettini is for Alcaraz to win. This might however require at least four sets to achieve, for the Spaniard. Alcaraz has dominated on grass this year and is yet to lose a match on the surface. Berrettini is a strong performer on grass and is a former Wimbledon finalist and will give Alcaraz his toughest match yet.
