Burnley will look to improve on their first point of the Premier League season won last time around but face a confident Tottenham Hotspur side scoring goals for fun. Burnley are 18th in the standings ahead of the weekend matches with one point. Tottenham are 7th in the table with eight points and are looking to extend their unbeaten four-match run in the league.
Burnley held West Brom to a goalless draw in their recent league match, although it could have easily been a win if Chris Wood’s shot that hit the goal post had gone inside. That remains the only point for Burnley this season after they started with three straight losses – to Leicester, Southampton, and Newcastle United. With only three goals scored this season, Burnley have the second-worst scoring record of the season ahead of weekend matches. Even their home season started with a 1-0 loss to Southampton and Burnley will have to improve exponentially to stretch their visitors.
Tottenham travel here after a 3-0 midweek in the Europa League that extended their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions. It was also their first clean sheet of the season. In the league, Tottenham will have reason to improve after conceding three goals beyond the 80th minute in a 3-3 draw against West Ham in the previous round. Having led 3-0 at the break, Tottenham will feel that it was two points dropped. Manager Jose Mourinho will be buoyed, however, by the presence of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, and Gareth Bale. The visitors have started their away season in emphatic style already winning 5-2 at Southampton and 6-1 at Manchester United. With Kane rested in the midweek Europa League match, there should be goals from this Spurs side.
Burnley will have a mountain to climb if they hope to improve on their draw in the last round of Premier League matches. Tottenham Hotspur are brimming with confidence at the moment and will be eager to set aside the disappointment of West Ham draw. There should be goals in this encounter from the visitors, as the impressive Kane-Son duo look to stamp their authority. We are backing the visitors to win with at least a two-goal margin.
