Brest v Rennes Betting Tips [3 June 2023]

Fifth-placed Rennes will travel to Stade Francis-Le Ble to take on Brest, who are 14th in Ligue 1, on Saturday. The visitors are one point behind Lille in fourth, while the hosts are on 44 points and are safe from the relegation scrap. Rennes are currently in the Europa Conference League qualification position but only on goal difference from Monaco who host Toulouse in their last game. However, Rennes could still qualify for the Europa League as they are only a point behind Lille who are away at Troyes this weekend. Rennes moved ahead of Monaco in their last match by beating them 2-0, recording their third consecutive league win in the home stretch. They've also kept three consecutive clean sheets. However, their away form has left much to be desired, with a record of five wins, five draws, and eight losses in 18 matches on the road this season. A win over Ajaccio in their last away match brought an end to a three-match losing streak on their travels. Rennes won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in August last year and will have to go all out for another win here. A loss or draw here could see them miss out on next year's Europa and Conference League altogether. 

While Brest are safe this season, they are behind their 11th-placed finish from last season. The hosts are 11 points clear of the relegation scrap and can, at best, finish the season in 13th. Despite this, they have finished the season well, though. Brest pulled off an unexpected win in their last match, beating Champions League hopefuls Olympique Marseille 2-1 at the Stade Orange Velodrome, which extended their winning run to three matches. They've recorded seven wins, five draws, and eight losses in 18 home matches this term; however, five of those wins came in their last five home matches.  Brest will do well to end the season with another win here.

Rennes are the favorites coming into this one and have made a very good push in the closing weeks of the league. Their last three matches have been extremely impressive, and they will see this as a favorable fixture to end their season. However, Brest have been very good themselves and will be bursting with confidence after beating Marseille last week. Rennes should come away with the win here, but Brest's solid home form makes us a little nervous. As a result, we will opt for an outright win for Rennes as a second option, but our main wager will be slightly less risky, with our money back for a draw.
