Botafogo host Fluminense for matchday 14 of the Brasileiro Série A with both teams looking to break free of the deadlock which sees five teams even on 18 points each. Fluminense and Botafogo hold identical 5-3-5 records but it’s the visitors that see themselves in sixth place while the hosts sit seventh due to goal differential. Botafogo will be looking to make it three wins on the trot after a wild finish in their last match against Internacional where a 90+11th minute stoppage time goal ultimately gave Fogão a 3-2 victory. Fluminense also find themselves on a strong run of form at the moment, with back-to-back wins of their own after a 2-1 home victory against Cruzeiro midweek in the cup in a match that was much more one-sided than the scoreline would suggest.
Botafogo will have the rest advantage here with a full week to rest and prepare compared to Fluminense who had a cup fixture on Thursday. However, the visitors have been playing very well as of late and it’s their offensive production that has caught the eye in their recent outings. The Tricolor created seven clear cut chances across their last two matches as the attacking unit looks to be clicking and linking together well. Botafogo meanwhile was extremely fortunate to walk away with the three points in their last match as Internacional carved them open a number of times but were ultimately wasteful in their finishing. They gave up six clear cut chances to Inter and will need to improve at the back as they cannot expect to ride their luck for much longer while allowing that many goal scoring opportunities.
